Mongolia Water Supply          and Irrigation

Townships hastily established in Mongolia's Gobi Desert at the end of last century changed the lifestyles of the once nomadic  indiginous peoples.  Unfortunately, these settlements were planned without regard to water resources. Now, 10-years on, these inadequate water supplies and a cultural unfamiliarity with horticultural principles were causing great hardship to the Gobi villagers, despite thousands of years of successful adaption to the harsh environment prior to adoption of 'modern' technologies.

This three-year project involved working with NZ Aid and the world's largest Aid and Development NGO - World Vision, to develop safe lasting water sources for five villages in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia.  Synergine's role included design, delivery, construction, supervision, and managing the educational programme for the villages that enabled them to take full ownership of the systems.

Cambodia Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Strategy Development

Working in partnership with NZ Aid, Synergine was tasked with development of World Vision Cambodia’s National Strategy for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation. Through the course of the two year project, Synergine has undertaken technical and project management training of World Vision staff and the national water supply and sanitation sector to build capacity and ‘buy in’ to the Strategy.

A second key component of the project was the design and construction of 600 latrines and 55 wells in four rural villages. Coupled with village hygiene promotion and education programmes, the project has provided tangible improvement to the health and wellbeing of the pilot villages, and in the future, rural communities across Cambodia.
